Best Practice Research

We often help clients by conducting best practice research to develop and support  a point of view. Below are examples of some of the research projects we have assisted, with a short explanation of our role in each.

In 2008, we ghostwrote a major study conducted by training and consulting firm Forum Corp. on leadership of corporate growth initiatives.   In “One Size Doesn’t Fit all: The Distinct Leadership Capabilities for Organic, Alliance and M&A Growth,”  Forum explained how different growth strategies required very different leadership talents.

In 2006 and 2007, we helped the $5 billion IT services firm Unisys Corp. conduct a major study on the state of IT support in big companies – how they were providing help-desk, training, “break-fix” and other tech support to their employees.

The study was the centerpiece of a Unisys 2007 thought leadership marketing campaign called “Unlearn Outsourcing”  which is featured here.

In 2005, we helped Diamond Management and Technology Consultants Inc. create a point of view on the health care industry—specifically, the role of health insurers in reducing burgeoning costs and improving quality.

In 2005, we helped Diamond Management and Technology Consultants conduct a study and create a point of view on the state of the U.S. payments systems.  In “Banking on Payments,” Diamond explained how the onset of electronic payments was shifting power from the major banks to focused credit card companies (Capital One, MBNA, etc.) and increasingly big retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target.

In 2004, we ghostwrote a study that Deloitte Research conducted on the war for talent, called “It’s 2008: Do You Know Where Your Talent Is?”  We worked with lead author Robin Athey to organize communicate her findings, which were numerous and far-reaching.

In 2001, we worked with Deloitte Research and Deloitte Consulting on a best practice case study-based research program focused on the impact of enterprise resource planning (ERP) technology at large pharmaceutical firms.

The Bloom Group interviewed several dozen executives (manufacturing, distribution, IT and others) at six major pharmas, including AstraZeneca, Glaxo, Novo Nordisk and Pfizer.

Nervewire

NerveWire Inc., an Internet consulting firm (later acquired by Wipro), turned to us in 2002 to design and conduct a study on “collaborative commerce” – how companies were using the Internet to synchronize their operations with suppliers and customers.

We surveyed 162 North American companies across industries and conducted in-depth case studies with a number of companies.  The study helped NerveWire generate significant press coverage and attention from IT industry research firms.
